In this tutorial Simulation Bearing Capacity Failure of a Strip Foundation in Abaqus base on the Sam Helwany’s book has been studied. Because of the symmetric condition, two dimensional shell part is used for both soil and foundation. You can see a figure of schematic at below

Elastic material for concrete and elastic- Cap plasticity couple with hardening for soil are used.The simulation is contained two steps,The first step was used to applied gravity and overburden pressure instead the soil weigh neighbor with foundation and step two was used to applied the vertical displacement to achieved bearing capacity.Symmetry boundary and fix condition like above figures were assigned to the parts. The mesh quality has a proper effect over the results. After the simulation the load displacement has taken form the foundation and soil nodes and it was clear and has good appropriate with book data. You can see some figures of the results at below
