Finite element simulation of human tooth under static load in Abaqus

Due to the universal character of the finite element method, which enables modeling of complex physical phenomena, its increasingly broad use in an interdisciplinary context, connected with the analysis of mechanical parameters of modern materials, can be observed. Among the present day areas of application of numerical analyses involving FEM, bio engineering and dentistry can be included, with respect to the assessment of stress levels and qualification of strength hypotheses in bone tissues. It allows designing and optimizing modern materials used for dental reconstructions, such as crowns or crown-root fillings, as well as assessing the risk of unsuccessful dental treatment resulting in damage to the hard dental tissue structure or the filling material. Numerical simulations using the finite elements method in dentistry can constitute a stage of preclinical tests connected with bio-mechanical aspects of the design and optimization of dental fillings.

In this tutorial finite element simulation of human tooth under static load has been investigated.The abaqus doesn’t  this capability to create a complex geometry such as tooth,skull and …so the tooth part is imported to the abaqus as a SAT part. The enamel material property assigned to the tooth and you can see a figure about assembled part at below

General static step to apply concentrated force has used .The fix boundary condition assigned to the boundary area of tooth . During the simulation the high stress area is obvious and the other couture with diagram are available in the visualization .You can see some figures of this simulation at below
