Simulation reinforced concrete beam with FRP under four points bending in Abaqus

In this tutorial, Simulation reinforced concrete beam with FRP under four points bending in Abaqus has been studied. The concrete beam is modeled as three dimensional part, the FRP is modeled as a conventional shell with tow layouts with different rotation angle. You can see a figure of the assembled parts at below

The FRP material is modeled as an elastic property with fail stress and Hashin’s damage criterion. To model and predict the damage in the concrete beam it would be necessary to use a proper material model, so the specific material model as the input file is used to simulate the damage propagation under bending load. The dynamic explicit procedure is appropriate for this type of analysis. The surface to surface contact between all rigid bodies and the concrete beam is used. The contact between concrete beam and FRP assumed as perfect contact without separation. The fix boundary conditions are assigned to the two rigid bodies as supporters. The load as displacement is applied to the two upper rigid bodies with smooth amplitude to apply smooth load. The mesh quality has a good effect on the crack propagation
